HackTV - Turn your Mac into a TiVo
O'Reilly has posted a detailed article on how to turn your Mac into a Digital Video Recorder for free. It's not as sexy as the EyeTV, but the price is right.
Using a FireWire-enabled video camera which supports pass-through, cables you no doubt already own, and HackTV software from Apple, your Mac can become your new video hub.
Once you follow the instructions on the first page of the article, you'll be watching TV on your Mac. But wait! What about recording? Yes, the second page of the article describes how you can record programs. Lastly, there is a link to yet another article which details how to schedule recordings in HackTV using iCal and Applescript.
