JBL Encounter 2.1 Speaker System

JBL has outdone themselves. Their Creature speaker system has always been one of my favorites, but the new Encounter 2.1 system is just too cool.

They're more powerful: 13 watts per stereo channel, and the subwoofer has 34 watts of power. They also sport a number of technological innovations that are beyond me, but are discussed in a great review at the Method Shop. One thing is clear from the review, however: They sound great.

They list at $199.99, but Amazon has them for $149.99.

UPDATE: They are now only
$86.95 at Amazon!

They sound like good speakers, but come on... making the speakers look like little alien heads? That makes them a "no buy". Hasn't the whole fad of X-Files' "The Greys" faded? I mean, it's no longer 1995... how 'bout some speakers that look like they're for adults?

They've never stopped making dull metal shelf box speakers for "adults." These are meant for adults who don't take traditional design so seriously.

I would have to agree that those small speaker are ridiculous. But maybe I can stack my pez dispenser collection next to them along with my yoda action figure! geeks.
